One of the highlights of the Albense offering are its festivals that are spread throughout the annual calendar.

Of all of them, highlight the festivals dedicated to the patron saint, Saint Teresa of Jesús.

From August 25 to 27, the Transverberation Festivities take place and from October 14 to 22, the Patron Saint Festivities are celebrated, which, each year, honor Saint Teresa of Jesus and which, due to their importance, are declared Festivals of Tourist Interest in CyL.

Saint Agatha

The varied calendar of festivals and pilgrimages begins with Santa Águeda on February 5, the day when married women, 'Las Águedas', take to the streets to celebrate their rebellion against the symbolic power of men.

Carnaval

In Alba de Tormes the carnival festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm. Both children and adults walk in costume through the streets of the town and participate in the parade organized by the town's Town Hall, this being one of the most fun moments of the afternoon.

Tortilla Sunday

That day, it is customary for the inhabitants of the town to make a pilgrimage to a traditional area of ​​the town itself or close to it to spend the day, normally in the countryside outside the urban center, in the area of ​​Ermita del Otero or El Bucarón, or on the banks of the Tormes River to share the exquisite potato omelette with family and friends. It is celebrated the Sunday before Palm Sunday.



Easter week

It is a purely Castilian-style Holy Week due to its sobriety and high religious sense in each of the processions. Highlight those on Good Friday on the afternoon of the Holy Burial and that on Palm Sunday, the meeting between Jesus and his mother Mary.

Monday of waters

Waters Monday is an exclusive festival in the province of Salamanca that is celebrated among friends and/or family who get together to eat in the countryside.



In Alba de Tormes, it is a day that is celebrated with great enthusiasm. That Monday afternoon, the people of Alba enjoy a snack in the countryside, and it is the traditional day on which the HORNAZO is eaten. It is celebrated the Monday following Easter Monday.

Saint Christopher

San Cristóbal is the popular giant that in the past could be seen at the entrance to cities. It was believed that simply by looking at its image the traveler was free from all danger during the trip. Later, road professionals began to carry their image for the same purpose, and little by little it spread to all types of road users. In Alba de Tormes, it is a day that is celebrated with great enthusiasm. That Monday afternoon, the people of Alba enjoy a snack in the countryside, and it is the traditional day on which the HORNAZO is eaten. It is celebrated the Monday following Easter Monday.

Virgin of Carmen

On July 16, the historical importance of fishing in the town is remembered on the day of its patron saint, the Virgin of Carmen.

Under the watchful eye of Albansians and neighbors, the Virgin of Carmen sails through the waters of the Tormes accompanied by the fishermen of the ducal town in a unique tradition in the province of Salamanca that has become an attraction for the region.

Transverberation of Saint Teresa of Jesus

The spiritual grace is celebrated through which the Saint, full of divine love, had her heart pierced by an angel with a fiery gold dart.

Transverberation is a mystical experience in which a person achieves an intimate union with God. And it is so strong that your heart feels pierced by a supernatural fire. This is what Saint Teresa herself said in chapter 29 of her "Book of Life."


On August 27, the festival of the Transverberation of Santa Teresa de Jesús is celebrated in Alba de Tormes.

Pilgrimage of the Virgin of Otero (Watermelon Festival)

For the inhabitants of Alba de Tormes, the Otero hermitage is of great importance, belonging to the town of Palomares de Alba, a district of the Villa and located about 2 kilometers from it. It is celebrated on the first Monday in September.

patron saint festivities

The festive calendar closes with the Patron Saint Festivities, which begin on October 14, the eve of the festival of Saint Teresa of Jesus, patron saint of the town, and end on October 22, the day of the Octave. During those days, locals and outsiders vibrate with a tradition that dates back to the year 1614, the date of the Beatification of Saint Teresa of Jesus.
